Missing Jang Man Weol, Goo Chan Sung, and the rest of the Hotel Del Luna characters we all loved? Here’s good news for you: the hit K-drama will be getting a stage adaptation this 2022!
Theater production company Showplay announced yesterday, January 27, that the upcoming remake will stay true to the drama’s fantasy elements. According to The Korea Times, it will also be highlighting the romance between the two main characters of the story. They also said that the musical will feature new storylines “to deliver refreshing twists” to those who’ve seen and loved the OG drama.
Fans can also expect to see the story’s iconic settings — like the Moon Tree — and the glamorous costumes and accessories in the upcoming musical.
Hotel Del Luna, which premiered in 2019, is about a hotel catering to spirits. Running this hotel is Jang Man Weol — a greedy soul who’s cursed to man the establishment for eternity. The only way for her to escape this curse is if she finds someone whose sin is worse than hers. Things take a turn for her when she meets Goo Chan Sung, forced to become the hotel’s manager because of a deal his father made with Man Weol years ago.
The drama comes from the Hong Sisters, who wrote the script, and director Oh Choong Won. It stars IU, Yeo Jin Goo, P.O., Lee Do Hyun, Kang Min Ah, and more. The drama is currently the 12th highest-rated K-drama in South Korean cable TV.
Aside from its star-studded cast, the drama was also popular for its OST, which featured songs by Taeyeon, GUMMY, Chungha, Heize, and more.
The Hotel del Luna stage adaptation is coming to theaters in 2022. It will be under the production of Showplay, the same company who’s also behind stage plays like The Moon Embracing the Sun, Radio Star, and more.
The OG Hotel Del Luna is streaming on Netflix.
