After rumors circulated online a few months ago, Netflix finally confirmed the all-star casting for their upcoming sci-fi thriller series, The Silent Sea! Bae Doona, Gong Yoo, and Lee Joon will lead the cast of this original series, premiering globally soon.
The Silent Sea is a series set in a future earth that went through desertification. It follows the members of a special team, who must retrieve a mysterious sample from an abandoned research facility on the moon. It is based on a short film by Choi Han Yong, who will also be directing this film.
Bae Doona plays Doctor Song Ji An, an astrobiologist determined to uncover the truth behind the accident at the Balhae Base research station. She starred in dramas Kingdom, Sense8, and Stranger.
Gong Yoo will be portraying the role of Han Yun Jae, the team leader whose mission is to carry out the task with only a few information while trying to put the team’s safety above everything else. His most popular works include Train to Busan, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, and Kim Ji Young: Born 1982.
Lastly, Lee Joon takes on the role of Captain Ryu Tae Seok, who was an elite member of the Ministry of National Defense. He volunteers for the mission as his means to escape the environment at the Ministry. Lee Joon starred in My Father is Strange and Lucky.
Choi Hang Yong directs the film, with a screenplay by Park Eunkyo. Jung Woo Sung acts as the show’s executive producer.
