Miss Universe Philippines
Miss Iloilo Rabiya Mateo was crowned Miss Universe Philippines during yesterday’s coronation event. She is the first-ever recipient of the crown, besting over 40 other candidates. Mateo dons the “Filipina” crown, which she received from Miss Universe-Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados.
Ranking after her are Paranaque’s Ysabella Ysmael, Quezon City’s Michele Gumabao, Bohol’s Pauline Amelinckx, and Cavite’s Kimberly Hakenson.

Borat 2
Officially called Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Borat 2 premiered on Amazon Prime last Friday. It stars Sacha Baron Cohen as the Kazakh TV personality Borat Sagdiyev who risks his life to return to America with his 15-year-daughter. The comedy mockumentary received mostly good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, after exposing the “misguided — or utterly repugnant — corners” of American culture.
The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
The Queen’s Gambit
Netflix’s newest mini-series The Queen’s Gambit also premiered last October 23. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon, who discovers a talent for chess while developing an addiction to tranquilizers provided to her as a sedative. Fueled by narcotics, she establishes herself in the world of competitive chess. Joining Taylor-Joy in this drama are Marielle Heller, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and more.

Over the Moon
Another film that dropped on Netflix last week is Over the Moon. The animated film centers on a young girl named Fei Fei who builds a rocket to the moon to prove the existence of the Moon Goddess Chang’e. It features the voices of Chinese-Filipina Cathy Ang, as well as Philippa Soo, Ken Jeong, Sandra Oh, and more.

Ariana Grande’s “Positions”
Ariana Grande dropped her latest single “Positions” last Friday, along with a music video depicting the singer as the President of the United States. The song is the lead single for Grande’s upcoming album Positions, set for release this October 30. The new album will be consisting of 14 tracks, featuring collaborations with Doja Cat, The Weeknd, and TY Dolla $ign.
