According to Chinese culture, there are auspicious foods because of their preparation, presentation, even down to pronunciation. Sweet treats, for example, symbolize a sweeter year ahead. Tikoy (nian gao) is supposed to ring in a sweeter, happier year, and in addition has a myth attached to it. It is offered to the Kitchen God as a bribe so that the sticky rice cake shuts his mouth to prevent him from badmouthing you to the Jade Emperor!

We surely want to attract good health and prosperity this 2021, so why not feast on lucky food while at it?
