About the Event

It’s easier said than done—humor writing, that is. But being funny in real life doesn’t necessarily translate to on-paper humor, though it’s a skill that you can learn. Seriously.

Writing Funny with Stanley Chi

In our upcoming workshop, “Writing Funny with Stanley Chi”, our featured speaker will share his best pro tips on how to write funny articles and stand-up comedy jokes, as well as discuss writing humor books. Chi is a Chinese Filipino observational comedian, cartoonist, TV host, columnist and book author. He has gained an underground cult following because of his unique comedic chops. He is the columnist for FHM Philippines' website, One Night Stan and a video blogger for Spot.ph's Suplado in the City.

“Discover the techniques Pinoy comedy writers use to write funny material. You’ll learn how to think, write, and be funnier. We’ll focus on writing humor columns, personal essays, and how to get your humor book published. The skills you learn can also be applied to humor of all sorts: stand-up, cartooning, and script writing.”

Expect to learn the basics of humor writing in this half-day event that highlights coffee and comedy. So, get ready to come out of creative obscurity and hone your sense of humor as a writer. Participants should at least be 18 years old; no professional writing experience is required. The workshop is organized by Ana P. Santos and Nikka Sarthou-Lainez, the founders of Writer’s Block Philippines, an organization established by freelance writers and creative entrepreneurs.
