About the Event
OperaJuan’s “Of Thrones and Tiaras: An Evening of Opera and Musical Theater Royalty” is making a comeback on a special, one-night only rerun of the well-received concert last December 8 & 9, 2018.

The show is an intimate musical production consisting of excerpts from various opera and musical theatre masterpieces such as La Traviata, Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, Wicked, Into the Woods, and Dear Evan Hansen, among many others. All music that will be featured in production have somewhat achieved a “royal” status in their respective genres, or was sung by a character of royal status. The first act adheres with the traditional way of performing the opera masterpieces, but also incorporated with a contemporary staging as the excerpts will be performed in a blackbox stage setting. The second act consists of songs from various musical theater productions performed and tied together in one storyline. The company will focus on the artists’ talent and singing prowess via the intimate and bare blackbox setting.
“We want to show everyone how we define ‘royalty’ now, as opposed to how we defined royalty during the time of kings and queens when royalty is basically all about bloodline...” said director, Renz Nathaniel Cruz during an interview with 98.7 DZFE’s weekly show featuring classical musicians, Maestro Filipino. The first act features a mini-Opera Gala featuring timeless opera arias and ensemble pieces. “... [In our repertoire] we have Lakme, we also have La Traviata, The Magic Flute, Le Nozze di Figaro...” says Cruz. For the second half of the show, Of Thrones and Tiaras showcases a mini-musical that features popular musical theater songs and a riotous yet heartwarming story about a royal ball hosted by four quirky and talented princesses. What follows next is an evening of laughter, romance, heartbreak, and acceptance. Cruz further explains, “It’s an intimate look at how princes and princesses are...it shows that [even though they are of royal descent and may seem omnipotent] they’re still human beings.”
The show features some of the best young performing artists from the opera and musical theatre scene: Kimberly Adam, Mary Louise Alcantara, Allison Rose Cervantes, Renz Nathaniel Cruz, Aubrey Marie Buenvenida, Eden Lorrice Dumlao, Aindrielle Madelo, Phi Palmos, Shanna Loise Garcia, Lorenz Edward Sarrondo, Jane Wee and Tomy Virtucio. OperaJuan is an emerging company of young singers whose aim is to further promote the classical and musical theater genres in the Philippines. This concert will be considered their soft launch.
Heading the team is OperaJuan founder and Artistic Director Renz Nathaniel Cruz and co-director Phi Palmos, musical direction by Klyde Ledamo, Jeric Lim as stage manager, Aindrielle Madelo as production manager, Mary Louise Alcantara as PR Manager, and Paolo Villavicencio as graphic artist.
