What's Stopping You?

About the Event

Celebrating passion, growth, and five years of pen and ink art, 22 –year-old artist, Kara Pangilinan held her first solo exhibit entitled “What’s Stopping You?” last November 6, 2016 at Warehouse Eight, Chino Roces, Makati. That Sunday evening, the place was packed with people, all dressed up in black and white; all amazed by Kara’s works then and now, and inspired by her story.

The warehouse was transformed into an exhibit space that had just the right balance between classy and chill. This was definitely different from other art exhibits, as it was complete with a little Details Ink booth, as well as beautifully curated cookie bars and lounge areas – all with the signature black and white aesthetic.

Guests were welcomed with a walkthrough showcasing Details Ink’s activities when it started in 2011, as well as Kara’s first artworks, before she ever discovered her pen and ink style. They were created as mere personal outlets, and completed over the course of a few months.

The exhibit also showed how the brand evolved through the years, with selected projects and collaborations on display – and all of which culminated with 21 black and white artworks that comprised Kara’s first ever collection.

Her love for intricate minimalism was evident in all her pieces. Somehow, her work can be described as light and delicate, despite being so heavily detailed – and that is precisely what makes it unique. However, what made each piece so special was that each one had Kara’s personal touch. Each one somehow echoed the theme of “What’s Stopping You?” and captured the passion, frustration and heart of this young artist.

One of the best things about the exhibit was that there was so much to see and do, not only for the young but also, the young at heart. It was simple. It was special. With that beautiful, black and white gathering, it was definitely a happy birthday for Details Ink.
