About the Event

Distinguished saxophonist Adam Campbell and our very own pianist Mariel Ilusorio will perform in 'The Art of the Saxophone' on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at Ayala Museum on Makati Avenue, Makati City.

Originating from Grahamstown, South Africa, Campbell started his saxophone studies at Kingswood College under Shaun Acker before continuing with Junny Brandt and finally, Paul Richard before leaving South Africa to pursue his studies in Besançon, France, under Cécile Dubois. 

Upon graduating with distinction from Besançon Conservatoire with his diplome d’études musicales in classical saxophone Campbell studied in the internationally recognized saxophone class of Philippe Geiss in Strasbourg.  

He has won several international competitions, including the International Chamber Music Competition in contemporary music in Paris (2017), the International Chamber Music Competition of Illzach (2017), the National Chamber Music Competition in Remirement, European ClariSax competition in Valenciennes (2015), the International Saxophone Competition in Lempdes (2015), the Grahamstown National Music Competition (2012) and the South African Music Teachers Competition (2011). 

Ilusorio studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York and later at the Oberlin Conservatory.  She lived in Germany for 10 years and studied with the eminent piano pedagogue Prof. Arie Vardi at the State Academy of Music Hannover.  She won several prizes in Europe, including the 14th Rina Sala Gallo International Piano Competition in Italy, the Maria Canals Piano Competition in Barcelona, the East Friesland Piano Prize in Germany, the Carlo Soliva International Piano Competition in Italy which enabled her to perform in critically acclaimed piano recitals in various European cities.  She was featured soloist with the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony Orchestra, the Oberlin Symphony Orchestra, the Cantu Orchestra, the Manila Chamber Orchestra, the Rhodes Orchestra, East Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, to name but a few.

The Oct. 13 concert features the music of Piazolla, Bach, Milhaud, Maurice and Ituralde.  This concert is made possible through the support of Lyric Piano and DZFE.FM 98.7  The Master's Touch.
