About the Event
On the 23rd of June, at 6:00 PM, a classical guitar concert will take place at The Madz Studio (The Philippine Madrigal Singers Music Studio) in Eastwood City. Un Concierto de Guitarra, which simply means “a guitar concert”, will feature music of different styles and countries including the Philippines. Performing are Rafael Ronquillo and Aaron Alvarez Biag, both young musicians who contribute in keeping classical guitar music vibrant around our country. This event is presented by the Phenomenal Subic, Inc.
Aaron, a graduate of the Centro Escolar University Conservatory of Music, performed at the Selebrasyon: Pagbunyi sa Ani ng Sining 2014 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Paco Park Presents, and a finalist of the Himig ng Panahon Guitar Competition 2017. He now teaches at the Manila Symphony Orchestra Music Academy.
Rafael was a student of the University Santo Tomas of Manila Conservatory of Music, el Convservatorio Superior “Oscar Espla” de Alicante in Alicante and the Musica en Compostela in Santiago de Compostela, both in Spain. For the past years, he has given concerts in Spain, California, and Metro Manila. He is a current faculty member of the Faculty of Arts and Letters of the University of Santo Tomas. Aaron and Rafael have been playing together in a larger group called the Silangan Chamber Guitar Ensemble. Both of them studied under Prof. Ruben F. Reyes, who now leads the Silangan ensemble. This concert will be the first time that the two will be performing as a duet with the hopes of success and bringing the music to more audiences around the country.
The program will start with Rafael Ronquillo performing folk music by composers like Joaquin Turina and Manuel Maria Ponce. Of course, including Philippine music by Angel Peña, Bayani Mendoza de Leon, and Nicanor Abelardo. The second half features music from opera and film. As a duet, Aaron and Rafael will present some well-known pieces from the operas of Gioachino Rossini and Manuel de Falla, and film music by Ennio Morricone, one of the world’s greatest living composers for film music.
The Madz Studio music hall offers a certain seating capacity that would make the event quite intimate. The tickets are limited.
