The Serpent reveals the story of serial conman Charles Sobhraj (Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim) and the unwavering attempts of Dutch Diplomat Herman Knippenberg (Billy Howle) to bring him to justice. The eight-episode limited series is based on the crimes of Sobhraj, known as the Bikini Killer, in the 1970s.
Sobhraj poses as a gem dealer and along with the con is his girlfriend Marie-AndrĆ©e Leclerc (Jenna Coleman). The couple travel across Thailand, Nepal and India (the Asian ‘Hippie Trail’), preying on young Western in 1975 and 1976. Their spree of crimes happened on the Asian āHippie Trail,ā where they prey on young travellers. Watch the trailer here:
The Serpent premiered on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK on New Yearsā Day 2021. To date, it received 31 million streams. The acclaimed limited series and UK smash hit stars Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim and BAFTA Nominee Jenna Coleman.
Produced by Mammoth Screen as a co-production between Netflix and BBC One, The Serpent launches on Netflix this April 2.
