Robert Downey Jr. is best known for his role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This time around, however, he’ll be producing a TV adaptation of a comic book series from DC Comics’ Vertigo Imprint, Sweet Tooth.
No superheroes though, this one’s a post-apocalyptic story. The comics by Jeff Lemire has been dubbed as ‘Mad Max Meets Bambi,’ while Netflix calls their upcoming series a “broad appeal, family-friendly, storybook adventure.”
Sweet Tooth is set in a post-apocalyptic world where an unknown virus gave life to human-animal hybrids. One of these hybrids is Gus, a boy with deer features, who leaves his home in the forest only to find out that the outside world has been ravaged by a devastating catastrophic event.
Gus then must team up with a ragtag family of humans and young hybrids like him to search for answers about this new world and why animal-children like him exist.
Robert Downey Jr. will be producing the show for Netflix. It will have eight episodes, with about an hour of runtime each.

It stars Christian Convery (Playing With Fire), Nonso Anozie (Game of Thrones), Adeel Akhtar (Les Misérables TV series) Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), and James Brolin (Westworld) as the voice of the narrator.
Sweet Tooth’s release date has not yet been revealed.
