Binibining Pilipinas 2021

After getting postponed because of the pandemic, the coronation night for the Binibining Pilipinas finally happened last night, July 11 at the Araneta Coliseum, and was streamed on the Bb. Pilipinas official YouTube channel. In the end, a new set of ladies were crowned to represent the country in various international pageants. Here are the winners of the event: Masbate’s Hannah Arnold (Binibining Pilipinas International), Cavite’s Samantha Panlilio (Binibining Grand International), Cagayan de Oro’s Cinderella Obenita (Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental), Eastern Samar’s Gabrielle Basiano (1st runner-up), Valenzuela’s Meiji Cruz (2nd runner-up).

Encanto

Disney is releasing a new animated film that’s set to take viewers to South America. Encanto is set in Colombia and follows an extraordinary family who lives in a magical, charmed place called Encanto. Every child in the family is blessed with a unique gift, except for 15-year-old Mirabel, who discovers that the magic surrounding Encanto is in danger.

The movie comes from Zootopia‘s Byron Howard and Jared Bush, and is co-directed by Charise Castro Smith. It will also be featuring music from Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda. It’s scheduled for release this November 24.

My Amanda

Netflix’s newest Filipino film My Amanda is finally premiering on the streaming site this week! The tearjerker film comes from director Alessandra De Rossi who also stars in the film as Amanda alongside Piolo Pascual, who plays TJ. The film follows the two best friends, who seem to be on the edge of falling in love with each other.

My Amanda marks De Rossi’s directorial debut, with Pascual also producing it. Stream the film here when it launches this Thursday. Here are the two leads talking about the film.

Black Widow

Marvel Studios’ latest film Black Widow premiered on Disney+ last week. It stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow, who confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a conspiracy about her past arises. She must then deal with her broken relationships and her history as a pay in the time before she became an Avenger.

Also starring in this film are Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz. It’s now streaming on Disney+.

BTS’ “Permission to Dance”

Last Friday, BTS released their newest English track “Permission to Dance” which is part of their Butter album release. The song is accompanied by a music video that seems to be set in the post-pandemic world and features the members dancing in a desert. Just like their previous releases, “Dynamite” and “Butter,” the new track is aimed to spread positivity and joy especially in the times we’re in today. The MV was quick to trend in multiple countries, hitting over 63 million views in its first 24 hours.
