93rd Academy Awards

After the delay because of the pandemic, Oscars is finally happening today! This year’s awards event is a historic one, as it marks the first time that nominees didn’t have to screen in theaters to be eligible for awards. It’s also a first in Oscars history that an all-Black producing team has been nominated for best picture, and that two actors of Asian descent have been nominated for best actor. This year also marks the first time that two women are nominated for best director.

BTS for Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton has announced last Friday that BTS will be the brand’s newest House Ambassador. Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director said that he’s “delighted” that the group is joining the brand and that he’s is looking forward to the partnership, which will merge luxury and contemporary culture together.

Aside from their partnership with Louis Vuitton, BTS also announced their collaboration with McDonald’s and Smart Communications last week.

BLACKPINK’s ‘As If It’s Your Last’

BLACKPINK reached yet another milestone last week, with the music video for “As If It’s Your Last” reaching 1 billion views on YouTube. This is three years and 10 months since it premiered on YouTube. This is the group’s 4th MV to reach 1 billion views, the most by a Korean artist right now.

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat is now on HBO MAX! The film is based on the video franchise of the same name and is the reboot of the Mortal Kombat film series. It centers on MMA fighter Cole Young who is hunted by the fearsome warrior Sub-Zero. He finds sanctuary at the temple of Lord Raiden, where he trains with the Earth’s greatest champions to take on the enemies from Outworld.

The film stars Lewis Tan, Jessie McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, and more.

Shadow & Bone

Another title that made its premiere last week is Netflix’s Shadow and Bone. The series is based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, and puts the stories of the Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows duology in one epic series. It centers on Alina Starkov, mapmaker of the army, who discovers that she might have the power to eradicate the Shadow Fold. She then goes into the world of the Grisha — people who have special abilities like her.

Shadow & Bone is now streaming on Netflix.
