The first trailer for New Line Cinema’s Mortal Kombat reboot film is finally here, and it does not hold back in the brutality that the successful video game franchise is known for. It even opens with Sub-Zero ripping out his foe’s limbs!

The film follows MMA fighter Cole Young who is hunted by Sub-Zero, a cryomancer sent by Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole tries to learn his heritage starting with the mysterious dragon marking he was born with.
The film will also feature other familiar Mortal Kombat characters including Sonya Blade, Jax, Lord Raiden, Scorpion, and more. It stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, and Mehcad Brooks.
It is directed by Simon McQuoid and produced by James Wan. Mortal Kombat is set for release on April 16, 2021.
