I am a fan of Alesana Marie's TBYD Trilogy. That's why for me the feeling of disappointment is kindda normal since most readers already have their own story line in mind.
Let me rant first, before I rave. There's a problem with cinematography and story treatment. To those who haven't read the book, the scene connections would be quite confusing. They clearly need some practice in terms of developing a good story line for a book adaptation. This is also the same comment I have with DnP.
On a good note, what I'd like about the film is the ability to relive those action-lovestory themed movies that the 90s generation had. That's what makes TBYD exiting. It is overloaded with KILIG. There's no denying that James and Nadine have a very, very strong chemistry!
Acting wise, they have improved; but this doesn't mean that I am convinced already.
James Reid's tagalog has improved. He also has dramatic sense and the making of a rom-com action star. Out of 10, I would give him an 8. Still needs a little push.
Nadine Lustre proves that her forte is really rom-com where she can express her bubbly personality naturaly. She still needs workshops to improve her actings in drama. There are scenes on which you'll expect her to break down in terms, but for me, her emotional scenes are kindda bitin. But hey, most filipina actress the likes of Anne Curtis, Andi Eigenmen, Liza Soberano have undergone the same thing. So I am giving her the chance and I am confident that she'll do best the next time.
With no MAJOR teleserye background, I'll give her a 7.
