Eat Of The Week: A Luxurious Wagyu Katsu Sando When You Want to Treat Yourself

Wagyu Studio's decadent Katsu Sando is a luxurious experience in every bite.

This week, we’re going a little fancy with our food recommendation. Scratch that — we’re going truly fancy as we introduce to you the signature dish of Wagyu Studio in BGC.

In this specialty restaurant that showcases the Japanese wagyu beef, you have two dining options: a Yakikniku lounge to enjoy an a la carte menu, and a luxe multi-course tasting menu for the supreme lovers of everything wagyu (and are willing to shell out a considerable amount of money for it). For premium beef dining, one can opt for the steak, an easy choice. If you want something different, how about about this top-class sandwich to sink your teeth into?

Katsu Sando: A Wagyu Sandwich Unlike Any Other

The decadent Wagyu Katsu Sando is included in the lounge menu, and a plate of four cutlet sandwiches will set you back P3,000. Clearly this is not a sandwich you’d come running for if you want to hunker down a meal quick — this experience is meant to be savored slowly, and shared.

This is no ordinary beef sandwich because as what Japanese often do, they make every little detail matter and the proof is on your palate in every bite.

This particular sando (a nickname the Japanese coined for sandwich) assembles top shelf ingredients to create a memorable meal, bite upon bite. Its milk bread, while deep-fried, remains light and crisp, and has a light smearing of a signature sauce that is a mix of savory and sweet. In between the bread is wagyu tenderloin that is going to deliciously assault your senses. Lastly, it has a topping of edible gold leaf to you of its premium price tag.

The choice of meat is the star of this sando, an intense, unctious explotion of umami that melts in your mouth. The fattiness of the meat, while undoubtedly rich, is not too heavy on the stomach. I don’t think once can fully prepare for the wagyu experience in this sandwich. The restaurant describes is on point: “a sandwich like no other.”

When we say ‘treat yourself,’ this could mean a shopping spree or getting that shiny new phone. Perhaps an all-day pamering at your favorite spa, or jetting off to an unexplored city. It also means spoiling your tastebuds when you’re in a generous mood to satisfy your cravings and curiosity. For those who willingly choose ultra-premium food over fashion, then this one’s made especially for you.
