About the Event
The Cultural Center of the Philippines and the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Music present the UP Symphonic Band under the baton of its musical director Associate Professor Rodney Ambat in an Easter Concert dubbed "La Passió de Crist” (The Passion of Christ) on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 7:30pm,Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theatre).

The concert will premiere Ferrer Ferran’s great masterpiece Sinfonía No. 2 “La Passió De Crist” in the Philippines. This is a challenging three-movement large symphonic work for band based on the life of Jesus Christ. Richard Strauss’ Finale of Death and Transfiguration, Op. 24 will open the program, a tone poem that tackled the profound subject of death, particularly about the last hours of man, presumably an artist, who has striven for the highest ideals in life.
The concert will also feature another multimovement masterpiece for symphonic band, The Divine Comedy Symphony by Robert W. Smith which is based on Dante Alighieri’s epic, The Divine Comedy. The program for the evening will end with "Give Us This Day" by David Maslanka, a two movement symphony inspired by the Lord’s Prayer but ecumenical in spirit for having Buddhist influences.
The concert fulfills the annual offering of the UP Symphonic Band, which is noted for its dynamic and vigorous renditions of difficult repertoire in the classical and contemporary art band music.
