About the Event

Gracing the walls of the gallery would be Nelson Castillo’s paintings for his own one-man exhibit, “Infinite Skies”. Over the years, Castillo has used landscape painting as a metaphor for his own search for a sense of balance. Some of the themes he explores in his work have to do with man's relationship with nature and the effects that man has on the environment. The works also have to do with expressing the essence of "place" and situating humanity in it.

The paintings are straight-forward and direct which belies the hours the artist has spent looking, thinking and contemplating about his surroundings. For years, Castillo played with and developed the idea of taking his captivation for skies, undulating landscapes, and miniature elements within his paintings. For him, the beauty of the sky is beyond comprehension. Never the same twice -- as it makes for unique images that capture a fleeting moment in time, never to be duplicated. He strives to capture the full array of Mother Nature’s moods using his color palette and limitless textures.

Nelson Castillo is an internationally renowned Filipino-American artist who began painting miniatures in 1968 and was noted as the “Father of Miniature Painting” in the Philippines. His paintings grace prestigious hotels like the Manila Peninsula, Philippine Village, Holiday Inn, Hilton and the Silahis Hotel. He was honored with the “Artist of the Year” award at the Virgo Awards last November 2000, the Pamana Awards in October 2002, and the Reflections XIV award on November 2002 in California. Currently, he has had more than 100 awards and recognitions from different local and national art competitions.

“Infinite Skies” will be on view from January 22 to 31, 2019 with the Artist Reception scheduled for Tuesday, January 22 at 6PM. The gallery is located on the 3rd level of The Podium, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
