Generations and Directions opens on April 21, 2018, Saturday at 6PM. Featured artists are Brisa Amir, Andre Baldovino, Kean Barrameda, Benjie Cabangis, John Cinco, Rico Lascano, Faye Pamintuan, Indy Paredes, Jay Ragma, Rodolfo Samonte, Nestor Vinluan, and Janice Young.
Since the first generation of postwar artists emerged, whence was nurtured our future National Artists, succeeding generations of Filipino artists have followed through the decades. “Generations and Directions” is an overview of contemporary abstract practices and persuasions by artists from different generations, opening at Art Anton on April 21.
The show features the works of: Brisa Amir, Andre Baldovino, Kean Barrameda, Benjie Cabangis, John Cinco, Rico Lascano, Faye Pamintuan, Indy Paredes, Jay Ragma, Rodolfo Samonte, Nestor Vinluan, and Janice Young.
Curated by noted abstractionist Benjie Cabangis, the show, in his words, are “intersections of various approaches that extend from the formalist concerns, to material manipulations, surface and ground explorations, to the digital imaging possibilities.”
How do these artworks, drawn from no representation or figurative well, divested of all seeming semblance to the physical world we know, though granting their presence in the portals of the imaginative realm, manage to connect with our emotions and sensations, still content to be primarily line, color, form, shape, marks, surface, rhythm, and above all – silence and space, balance and tension, the ineffable and irreducible? Abstraction is a way of seeing and feeling, a record of a journey to a still undiscovered world.
“Generations and Directions” will be on view until May 10.
