About the Event

Symbiosis: The UPLB Biological Society celebrates its 43rd anniversary with a week’s worth of events under the theme, ‘Chromatic: Scintillate the Spectrum’. The theme is  inspired by the organization’s diversity course-wise, hence referred to as the spectrum. The spectrum is shown through this week, showing what the society and its members are all about.

The week-long celebration starts at 10 A.M on a Tuesday, August 22nd with the official opening of an exhibit featuring information on the organization and decorations that fill Wing C of the Institute of Biological Sciences (IBS) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Along with the traditional ribbon cutting and speeches that come along with exhibit openings, Symbiosis will also be introducing both its website and its official publication: Biozette. This ceremony will introduce the things to come in the organization to those present.

August 23 will have the Libreng Sakay, a day-long activity that circumnavigates the campus a lot of times, giving free rides to those who ride the jeepney. Passengers would be informed on Symbiosis and the events of its 43rd anniversary. This event starts from 8 A.M to 4 P.M so as to benefit more people. A tradition in every anniversary week, Libreng Sakay is fun for the members and well, free for those who decide to take Symbiosis’ offer.

The Thursday’s a 24th, the exact date of the organization’s 43rd anniversary and it’s another day to give something free to the campus community. Open Tambayan, the highlight of the in-campus celebration, is basically giving out free food along the aforementioned exhibit located in IBS Wing C lobby at 6 P.M. Resident members would be up on their feet handing out food and beverages to people lined up by the designated area. Residents and alumni join the feast celebrating 43 years of the society, having fun and discussing what’s to come in the following days.

On August 25, Friday, resident members and alumni of the society join together to thank the Creator for Symbiosis’ in-campus celebration and longevity through a thanksgiving mass in St. Therese of Child Jesus Parish Church located inside the campus at 5:30 A.M. This thanksgiving is the end of the in-campus celebration of the society’s anniversary.

Still, the celebration isn’t done yet. August 26th is the organization’s induction ball and alumni homecoming; the nighttime event is to recognize new members of the society, induct new officers, and celebrate with alumni members in a celebration with the title, ‘Resplendence: 43rd Induction Ball and Alumni Homecoming’. Done yearly, the event would be filled with food, fun, stories and reunions. Moreover, ‘Resplendence’ will be an avenue to inform alumni to the prospects of Symbiosis for perhaps years to come.
