2016 Asia-Manila Regional Programming Contest

The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), through its Department of Information Systems and Computer Science (DISCS), will host the Association for Computing Machinery-International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) Asia-Manila Regionals in the Loyola Heights Campus on December 14-16, 2016.

Considered the "olympics of programming competitions" [1], the ACM-ICPC is known as the oldest, the largest, and the most prestigious programming contest in the world. It is a multi-tier, team-based programming competition that pits teams of three university students against eight or more complex, real-world problems in five hours. Teammates work in collaboration to solve as many problems in the least amount of time with only one computer.

The ACM-ICPC Asia-Manila Regional Contest is open to student teams from the Asia Pacific and Indochina ACM-ICPC subregion, which includes Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Cambodia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

The top team of the ACM-ICPC Asia-Manila Regional Contest earn a spot to compete in the ACM-ICPC World Finals 2017, which will be held in Rapid City, South Dakota, USA, on May 20-25. Members of the top team will also be awarded laptops from Acer. The winning team will be awarded laptops from Acer. Other awards and prizes await the participants.

Hon. Fortunato de la Peña, Secretary of the Philippines' Department of Science and Technology, is expected to give the closing remarks on December 15.

The event is made possible by partnerships with IBM, Acer, Rockwell Land, RCBC, Smart Communications, Accenture, Frappe La Rue, Uber, ClickTheCity.com, and WhenInManila.com.
