PETA Theater Online Workshops

Check Out PETA’s New Online Theater Workshops

Driven by its advocacy for education based on the principles of theater, the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) continues to reinvent its workshop curricula to cater to the needs of not just individual artists and enthusiasts, but also of organizations and institutions. With the success of the recently concluded Creative Pedagogy classes, a newly crafted course aimed at helping educators cope with the demands of blended learning, the creation of new online workshop courses, on top of the expansion of current ones, has proven to be a step in the right direction.

This August, Stream 2 of Letā€™s Get Creative Plus offers a lineup of courses in varied topics. This month will see the return of the Acting for Stage and Acting for Screen classes, the online version of the highly requested Creative Musical Theater class, as well as two new introductory courses: Introduction to Writing for Performance and Introduction to Visual Arts. Taught by PETAā€™s finest artist-teachers, each course will bring a unique learning experience to each participant:

ACTING FOR STAGE

August 24, 26, 28, September 1, 3  (Weekdays)
August 22, 23, 29, 30, September 5 (Weekends)

Led by actors and directors, Ian Segarra and Dudz TeraƱa, PETAā€™s signature acting curriculum is once again brought onto the online realm. This course will give participants an intimate online space where they can master the craft of theater acting by learning the rudiments of script analysis, scenework, and character creation.

ACTING FOR SCREEN

August 24, 26, 28, September 1, 3 (Weekdays)
August 22, 23, 29, 30, September 5 (Weekends)

Designed to get participants to shake off their camera shyness, actor and director Phil Noble will guide workshop students as they learn and improve on the technical aspects of acting in front of a camera, including character creation and monologue performance.

CREATIVE MUSICAL THEATER

August 25, 27, 31, September 2, 4 (Afternoons)
August 25, 27, 31, September 2, 4 (Evenings)

Topping polls for online course requests, PETA is finally bringing its highly-anticipated CMT workshop online to be taught by composer and musical director, Jeff Hernandez. A course made to develop oneā€™s musicality through activities rooted in experimentation and discovery, it is a sure way to boost oneā€™s creative potential for musical performance on stage.

INTRODUCTION TO WRITING FOR PERFORMANCE

August 17, 18, 19, 20, 21

A course made to empower aspiring writers, J-mee Katanyag, writer and actor, will be leading participants in brain-stimulating exercises aimed at freeing writers of creative blocks in writing performative monologues, songs, short narratives, poems, or even in keeping a journal.

INTRODUCTION TO VISUAL ARTS

August 22, 23, 29, 30, September 5

A creative journey designed to help participants gain confidence in their drawing skills, this course is also aimed at exercising oneā€™s mindfulness amidst stressful times. Actor and designer, John Moran, will be leading participants in a series of creative projects infusing different elements of the arts such as the exploration of lines, shadows, light, texture, and movement.

Conducted via Zoom, these courses will provide participants with an optimal online learning experience with a limited number of ten to twelve (10-12) students per class from the safety and comforts of their own home.

With safety and health precautions remaining to be a priority for everyone amidst the threat that COVID-19 poses, PETA continues to maximize the digital platform in bringing its services to patrons and partners alike. To this end, PETA has initiated the revival of its extension programs by launching its digital iterationā€”pioneered with a partnership with De La Salle Zobel and paving the way for the creation of a specialized wellness workshop, aimed at the emotional and mental wellness of students at a time where support through a sense of community is more important than ever. This, together with the expansion of Letā€™s Get Creative Plus, is PETAā€™s way of continuing its advocacy for education in the time of crisis.
