Use Messenger even without a Facebook account

Facebook will no longer require people to have a Facebook account to use its messaging app.

Starting today, Facebook will no longer require people to have a Facebook account to use its messaging app.

With the update, more people can enjoy all the features on Messenger which includes photos, videos, group chats, voice, video calling and more. All the user need is a phone number.

On the welcome screen, there will be an option saying "Not on Facebook?" You can now sign up only using your name, phone number and a photo.

The company has not announced when the update on Facebook Messenger will be available on other countries but it is now available to its users in the United States, Canada and Venezuela.

The update is available starting today for both iOS and Android users.
