Everything you need to know about the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus

How is it really different from last year's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus?

On Wednesday, Apple announced their newest version of iPhones — the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. How is it really different from last year's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus?

Size

Like last year’s models, the new iPhone comes in two sizes: The iPhone 6S has a 4.7-inch screen, and the iPhone 6S Plus has a 5.5-inch screen.

3D Touch

Previously known as Force Touch on the Apple Watch, the 3D Touch is a new way to navigate and experience the iPhone by sensing pressure to enable new gestures — Peek and Pop™ — so you can check another content without leaving the screen which you are currently using.

Press lightly to "peek" or slightly look at a photo, e-mail, web page or other content and press deeper to "pop" or actually see the content itself.

A9 Chip

The new A9 chip with 64-bit architecture embedded M9 motion coprocessor is said to be 70% faster in processing and 90% faster in graphics compared to last year's A8 chip. It is "the most advanced chip ever in a smartphone, delivering faster performance and great battery life," said in a press info.

A better camera

Last year's 8-megapixel rear camera is nothing compared to this year's 12-megapixel rear camera which has a step up in hardware, an enhanced software — improved low-light performance, better detail, truer colors and sharper images. With videos, the new camera can shoot and edit 4K videos. Moreover, a 5-megapixel front camera to replace last year's 1.2 megapixels with the ability of a flash using the phone's screen.

Live Photos

If you love GIFs, then you'll love this new feature called live photos. Basically, it captures a 1.5-second video when you take a photo and when you tap it, it will animate and can actually be used as a wallpaper.

Stronger iPhone

The new iPhones are made of a stronger aluminum alloy that is said to be used in the aerospace industry. Remember last year's concerns over bent iPhone 6 models? They're not going to happen with these new versions.

Rose Gold

While we are already used to the silver, gold and space gray colors, Apple has now added a new one to the family — rose gold.

An upgrade program*

Apple announced an iPhone Upgrade Program for those who want to upgrade their phones annually starting at $32 per month and is only currently available in the US.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be available for pre-orders on September 12 in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK and the US and will be available on September 25. Furthermore, the iOS 9 will be available on September 16.
