With airfares plummeting to an all time low, getting around the Philippines has never been easier. With a little patience (and luck, perhaps) in promo scouring, a long weekend, extra moolah to spare, and Dora the Explorer's sense of adventure, you're ready to jet set and travel within the country.
It's June 12 kababayan! Save yourself one good day ahead and for once, steer your head clear of the ruddy bickering and chaos of Philippine politics. Now that there's a reason to be extra nationalistic, why not think of all the good things you absolutely adore about the Philippines? I, for one, can tell you loads on why I am proud to be a Pinoy and topping my long why-I-love-being-a-Filipino list is one sentiment I'm sure a lot of fellow Pinoys share with me: I love how Filipino food is arguably the best in the world.

Have you ever fallen off a 60 foot tree? I have. Of course, I have survived it and actually enjoyed the fall (with little bits of sheer horror in between, yes, I admit). It was totally safe, and made much more fun in Subic Bay's Tree Top Adventure.

Ever wanted a close encounter with animals of the wild? At Zoobic Safari, the country's only tiger safari, you get to be up-close with different animals (and yes, tigers!) in a forest atmosphere.

I find Naga City to be a very charming place, having spent time in Bicol during holidays and vacation seasons to reconnect with my Bicolano roots (my mom was born and raised in Naga). While I admit I am very rusty in speaking their dialect, my tongue is surely adept in all the palatable offerings this side of Bicol has to offer. I do not shy on their spicy fare, and I am always game to go cowboy style in the name of delicious food.
When I crave for a chillier atmosphere or a quick roadtrip getaway, Tagaytay is always on the top of my mind. With its numerous restaurants, hotels and destinations promising good services "with a view," I tend to overlook the neighboring cities and keep my eyes on the more famous establishments. Little did I know that there's a little secret of three years just kilometers before reaching the city of cool climate, sitting along Robinsons Terazza in Dasmariñas City, waiting to be discovered.

To escape the summer heat, you can always head to Baguio. But if you’d like to put a little more oomph to your vacation, go further up north to Sagada.

'Location, location, location.' There is a good reason why this real estate mantra is repeated, and to experience a living testimony of this is Subic Bay's Courtyard Inn. Conveniently located along Waterfront Road, it is a witness to the beautiful sunsets by the sea and heart-pumping watersports action. It's also the perfect hub for those wanting to try out different food joints without having to ride your car.

I wanted my children to experience Naga City as I did as a child. And what better way is there than letting them taste the street food of my youth? I wanted them to savor the food that, for me, evoked fond memories of days when eating out was only for very special occasions. When everyone, including the office workers and students, went home for lunch and left the centro or downtown almost deserted. And when our favorite merienda was delivered to our doorsteps in a large bamboo basket by the street vendor while calling, “Oooooyyyy, baduya!”

Locals and travelers alike come in herds at Subic Bay's Meat Plus Café -- just from the name, you could tell that this is a place to unleash your carnivorous self.
