About the Event
Jill is currently the Director of De La Salle University Culture and Arts Office. She Serves as the Secretary of the Committee on Cultural Education at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Governor of the Federation for Asian Cultural Promotion and is also the President of the Association of Cultural Offices of Philippine Educational Institutions, Inc.
Eastern Suns marks the rebirth of Jill as a visual artist. She digs deep into her experiences and knowledge as a cultural worker to shine a light on the differences – and similarities – among Asian cultures.
The artist has long been captivated by the image of the sun; she has combined this with her fascination for Asian culture and design to create a series of paintings that feature different and distinctly Asia, depictions of her solar inspiration. She makes full use of masks, patterns and facial markings particular to Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines – all countries with rich cultural heritage and distinct visual palettes.
