Years ago, I tried reading "Little Women," but could not bring myself to finish it. Now, I know why. At the end of the movie, the lead character laments that "no one is going to want to read about the joys and struggles of a single family." She was right. It lacks a driving plot and focus. However, the movie does capture the ambience of the period impeccably. The acting also is first rate.
