The Arrowverse has found its new Batwoman!
After the surprising exit of Ruby Rose from the show, fans of the CW superhero series made their guesses and pitched their thoughts on who could wear the cowl and cape next. Today, the announcement dropped that the show has found its new star: Javicia Leslie.
“I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community,” Leslie said, according to the official DC blog.
Javicia Leslie is reportedly playing Ryan Wilder, who steps into the Batwoman costume after Kate Kane, played by Ruby Rose. Wilder does not have a comic book counterpart, but she is teased to be real different from the Batwoman before her.
āDescribed as likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today, she lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical all-American hero.ā
The second season of Batwoman will drop next year. For more updates, follow the Batwoman page on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
