The Silent Sea

WATCH: Bae Doona and Gong Yoo Takes You to the Moon in ‘The Silent Sea’

The Silent Sea — one of the highly anticipated K-dramas of 2021 — is finally streaming on Netflix this December 24! And after revealing the official poster a few days ago, the streaming site has unveiled the official teaser for the drama, giving us a glimpse of Bae Doona and Gong Yoo who’ll be going to the moon to save the Earth from ruin.

The new trailer shows the situations that the team members are put into — from making a crash landing on the moon to barely escaping when the ship ends up hanging on a cliff. The team then risks their lives to complete their mission, all while finding the answer to mankind’s survival.

Watch it here:

The series is set in a future Earth that has undergone desertification and follows a special team who’s sent to secure a mysterious sample from an abandoned research facility on the moon. Here, Bae Doona plays astrobiologist doctor Song Ji An, who is determined to uncover behind the accident at the Balhae Base research station.

Meanwhile, Gong Yoo plays Han Yun Jae, the exploration team leader who must carry out the mission despite having limited information. He also puts the safety of his team above everything else, even if that means putting himself in jeopardy.

Lastly, Lee Joon plays Captain Ryu Tae Seok, an elite member of the Ministry of National Defense, who volunteers for the mission to escape the stifling environment at the Ministry.

The Silent Sea

The series comes from director Choi Hang Yong, who also directed the short film of the same name, which received acclaim at the 13th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival back in 2014. Park Eun Kyo, the writer of Crush and Blush, Mother, and Neverending Story, penned the screenplay for the series.

The Silent Sea arrives on Netflix this December 24.
