8 K-Drama Couples We Love to Love (and Where to Stream Them)

To make choosing the perfect show to watch and rewatch for the month, we list down 8 of the best and most non-problematic couples that the K-Drama gods have given us.

The month of love is here once again, and for the loveless ones who are still looking for their dose of kilig, there’s really no better way to get that than with a good K-Drama binge. Sure, the stories can sometimes be cliche and the characters unrealistic, but it’s hard to not admit that they still do work at giving us some good ol’ feels.

To make choosing the perfect show to watch and rewatch for the month easier, we list down 8 of the best and most non-problematic couples that the K-Drama gods have given us.

Which of these couples do you ship?:

1. Kim Bok Joo and Jung Joon HyungĀ ofĀ Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

Played by:Ā Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk

What even is this list without these two characters?Ā Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok JooĀ centers on two athletes – a weightlifter and a swimmer – who are both just striving to be the best at the sports they do.

What makes this couple one of the best K-drama couples out there is how they both support each other in their fields. Unlike the other K-dramas which usually involve some “transformation scene” from the female lead, Bok Joo didn’t have to change a thing about her routines and appearance to get Joon Hyung to like her.

2. Choi Ae Ra and Ko Dong ManĀ ofĀ Fight For My Way

Played by: Kim Ji WonĀ and Park Seo Joon

Park Seo Joon may have amazing chemistry with all the ones he gets paired up with, but it’s pretty undeniable just how good he had it with Kim Ji Won inĀ Fight For My Way!Ā

Ae Ra and Dong Man started off as childhood friends, so it’s only natural that they feel overprotective of each other when it comes to their relationships and their passions. Despite this, though, they still know their boundaries and when to step in for each other. As two characters who we’ve seen bickering with each other all the time, it’s also fun to watch just how naturally they’ve transitioned from being friends to lovers.

3. Hae Soo and Wang So of Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

Played by:Ā IU and Lee Joon Gi

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart RyeoĀ centers on Go Ha Jin who travels back in time to the Goryeo dynasty where she wakes up as Hae Soo. There she meets the cold and closed off Wang So, who everyone fears.

In this drama, Hae Soo accepted Wang So despite all the rumors that had spread in the kingdom about him. She even helped him come out of his shell and accept himself despite the scars of his past. In the same way, Wang Seo was also always there for Hae Soo, especially during the time she needed someone to comfort her the most (remember that scene in the rain?).

Up until now, we still don’t know if Hae Soo and Wang Soo got the happy ending they deserve, and we’re still praying that they give us a second season to answer all our questions about that heartbreaking finale!

4. Sung Deok Mi and Ryan Gold of Her Private Life
Played by: Park Min Young and Kim Jae Wook

Sung Deok Mi and Ryan Gold’s relationship is exactly the kind of thing every fangirl wishes to achieve someday!

In Her Private Life, Sung Deok Mi lives a double life as an art curator in the day and an idol’s fansite by night. When her boss (and future partner) Ryan Gold learns about her secret, he accepts her instead of looking at her differently. He even tried to learn more about the “fangirl life” to try and understand the things she does, even if  that involves having to pass a very, very difficult quiz to get into a fancafe!

5. Kang Dan I and Cha Eun Ho of Romance is a Bonus Book
Played by: Lee Na Young and Lee Jong Suk

Romance is a Bonus Book centers on Kang Dan I – a divorced mom who’s trying to pick herself up and start a life again by getting a job. Cha Eun Ho, her childhood friend, helps her by giving her a job at the publishing company he’s working at, giving her a chance to discover her passion again.

What sets this drama apart from the others we’ve watched is how less they focused on the OTP, but more on Dan I’s journey on finding herself. Eun Ho, as her best friend, respected all her decisions, may it be on her career or on her relationships. He let Dan I do her own thing, watching her shine from afar, and he never tried to meddle with her decisions, knowing that they’re their own persons.

6. Sung Shi Won and Yoon Yoon Jae of Reply 1997
Played by: Jung Eun Ji and Seo In Guk

Because we’re just suckers for K-dramas with the friends to lovers trope, we’ve decided to add another one.

Shi Won and Yoon Jae’s relationship is probably something a lot of people who grew up with their childhood friends can relate too. Throughout the drama, we saw how they bicker and tolerate each other’s flaws. Although it took time for them to realize their feelings, they also transitioned from being friends to lovers naturally.

When the show flash forwarded to the present, to when they were in their 30s, it was obvious that nothing really changed despite getting older.

7. Kang Mi Rae and Do Kyung Seok of My ID is Gangnam Beauty
Played by: Im Soo Hyang and Cha Eun Woo

My ID is Gangnam Beauty is about Kang Mi Rae who went through plastic surgery to make herself pretty and accepted in society. However, this seems to backfire as the people in her university start to bully her for being a “Gangnam Beauty”.

In a country where people value looks more than anything else, Kyung Seok sees Mi Rae as someone who’s more than a pretty face. When Mi Rae doubts herself, Kyung Seok is always there to reassure her of her worth. When they started dating, Kyung Seok always puts her comfort ahead of everything else, even if it may seem inconvenient on his part.

8. Jang Man Weol and Chung Myung of Hotel Del Luna
Played by: IU and Lee Do Hyun

We know Man Weol and Chung Myung isn’t the main ship in this drama, but we thought they still deserve a spot on this list because of what a great couple they could have been if only fate was on their side.

They meet in Man Weol’s past and because of a tragedy that leaves Man Weol with no one on her side, she spent the hundred years she’s lived hating on Chung Myung, believing that he sold them out. Despite knowing this, Chung Myung stayed by her side throughout the years, even if he had to watch her from afar, waiting for the time that he could explain why he did what he did and ask for her forgiveness.
