The Metro Manila Film Festival kicked off on Christmas Day, and one of the most talked-about films this year is Antoinette Jadaone’s Fan Girl. The follows a 16-year-old fangirl who realizes that her fantasy about her favorite actor is not that flashy in reality after finding herself in an isolated place with him. It stars Charlie Dizon and Paulo Avelino.

The film bagged 8 awards in last night’s awards ceremony. This includes Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay for Antoinette Jadaone, Best Actress for Charlie Dizon, Best Actor for Paulo Avelino, Best Cinematography for Neil Daza, Best Sound for Vincent Villa, and Best Editing for Benjamin Tolentino.

You can catch Fan Girl and the rest of the MMFF on Upstream. The films will be available until January 7, 2021.

Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO MAX

Wonder Woman 1984, which was originally set to premiere in cinemas back in June, is finally streaming on HBO MAX, on the same day that it screened in selected cinemas in the US and Canada. The film is currently on track to becoming the biggest release since the pandemic, with it receiving “mostly positive” reviews so far, according to Screen Rant.

Wonder Woman 1984film follows the heroine as she squares off against two new villains ā€” Max Lord and the Cheetah. Starring in the film are Gal Gadot, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Pine.

Disney and Pixar’s Soul

Another film that made its premiere on Christmas day is Disney Pixar’s latest offering — Soul. The film is currently screening in areas under MGCQ, as well as in countries where Disney+ is available. It’s the first Pixar film to have a black lead character.

It follows Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher who wants to pursue jazz music. He’s only gotten his chance to play at the best jazz club in town when a misstep takes him to The Great Before, a place where souls get personalities before they go to Earth. It’s there that he meets 22, a soul who helps understand the joys of living.

BTS’ Jimin and V’s Christmas Songs

As a gift to ARMY for the Holidays, BTS members Jimin and V both released solo Christmas songs entitled “Christmas Love” and “Snow Flower (ft. Peakboy).” The two members also participated in the production of the songs, along with other resident Big Hit producers.

Lovestruck in the City

A new K-drama that is getting so much love from fans is Lovestruck in the City. It stars Ji Chang Wook, Kim Ji Won, Kim Min Seok, So Joo Yeon, Ryu Kyung Soo, and Han Ji Eun as 6 young couples who are all trying to make it in the competitive city.
