If you’re a K-pop fan, you’re probably no stranger to Spotify’s K-POP DAEBAK playlist and are listening to it on a daily basis especially since it features an updated mix of K-pop’s newest and most popular hits right now. But did you know that the said playlist is one of the music platform’s most popular playlist right now?
According to Spotify, their first K-pop editorial playlist has garnered over 3.1 million followers since it was created in 2014. The playlist has also been streamed for over 5.3 billion minutes, giving users a mix of over 70,000 K-pop songs in the last seven years.
The music platform also shared that the 10 countries that have listened to the playlist are the United States, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, Brazil, and Australia. Meanwhile, Gen Z played the playlist the most, with over 51% of the streams coming from 18 to 24-year-olds, followed by 25 to 29-year olds (20%) and ages 17 and under (13%).
In a statement, KossyNg, Spotify’s Head of Music in Asia said: “Spotify is dedicated to connecting Korean artists and their work to listeners all over the world, so that music can be discovered and enjoyed far and wide across borders. This has [been], and will continue to be, our mission in Korea for the long term and we are honored to serve as a bridge that connects K-pop and Korean artists to the world.”
As of writing, some of the songs which are featured in Spotify’s K-Pop Daebak playlist include Lisa’s “LALISA,” Stray Kids’ “Thunderous,” TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s “LO$ER=LOVER,” Red Velvet’s “Queendom,” and more.
