I loved it. It’s the first time I’ve seen an actual Filipino musical. I didn’t even know we were capable of producing such kinds of movies! It was almost like watching a play. The quality of Ang Larawan is so good, it’s comparable to foreign musicals. The production, the costumes, the music; everything was wonderful to watch. And I loved how, even though it was set in the past, it wasn’t exactly about the country’s history like other period pieces. It was just this story about two sisters set during that time, and how their lives were trapped by the pressures that come with having the masterpiece painting. I do feel that it was weird that we never really got to see the actual painting, that we only got to see blurry glimpses of it, unless of course that was actually the point. And it had some comedic moments too, like when Candida started singing about how talented she was with catching rats and how she wanted to make a living out of that (we were like wtf?
