We rarely see a Filipino film that we can compare to big budget, Hollywood blockbusters today but Smaller and Smaller Circles is an exemption the we should be proud of. With veteran actors like Nonie Buencamino, Bembol Roco, Sid Lucero, Ricky Davao, Christopher De Leon, Gladys Reyes and others, the acting was superb compared to the usual Filipino films offered to us these days. From start to finish, I lauded the film score as it gives me the chills and kept me wanting and waiting for what will happen even though I read the novel last year. The cinematography, with tight and close up shots of the characters as well as the victims in all its goriness, made me feel part of the story to unravel the mystery. Warning, some shots are not for the faint-hearted. Thanks to the director, Rayah Martin, the overall quality of the film exceeded my personal expectations as a reader of the book. The movie did not disappoint and is not afraid to show something new, something that will leave the movie-goers questioning their religion, their political beliefs and humanity. Smaller and Smaller Circles will made you look closer at everything.
