This was an interesting movie. The acting is not the greatest but I liked the story. This is what made it worth watching. I started it thinking that I would not like it very much but decided I should give it a try. Im glad I did. Dont approach it expecting a total block buster drama, but rather as what it is..A comic book adaptation movie. Some of it is pretty goofy but as its based on a comic book i give it them. Best for a younger audience, but including myself from a more middle aged group I still enjoyed the movie.
I like how this movie projected a manga-based story into live-action.
However, I think it would be great if the casts were selected similar to the age of the characters (only to relate, how really young are Kaneki, Hide and Hinami) :)
PS: But, Masataka Kubota is superb as Kaneki! Great Actor! All of them actually hehe.
If you're looking forward to Kaneki's awakening during his fight with Jayson, I'm afraid this is not the movie for you, however, if you're a fan of the manga then you'll be able to understand and appreciate this movie.
A lot of Tokyo Ghoul Manga readers criticizes the anime for taking out majority of the contents from the manga, and this is why I am able to appreciate this movie very much. They tried very hard to maintain true to the original content by means of maintaining as much details as they can.
Could you Imagine squeezing in season 1 of the anime in a movie lasting for less then 2 hours? That being said, I find it justifiable that they decided to choose quality over the number of episodes they could squeeze in for that allotted time.
I would assume that those who find the movie disappointing were people who wanted to see it up to the Jayson fight - well let's just hope they decide to make some sequels for that as the movie is rather good.
Casting and costume design - 5/5
Story - 3/5
Acting - 4/5
Visuals - 3/5 - CG could still use some improvement but impressive nonetheless
