Due to the ongoing pandemic, Disney’s release schedule for their films just got reshuffled. This includes the three Star Wars films that were planned for release starting December 2022.
According to Variety, the three untitled films set in the galaxy far far away are now scheduled on 2023, 2025, and 2027, all in December. While details about the films are scarce, Taika Waititi already announced that he’ll be directing a Star Wars film.
The Thor Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director will also co-write the upcoming filmās screenplay with 1917 writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
Alongside the rescheduled Star Wars films are other much-anticipated Disney titles including James Cameron’s Avatar sequels and the live-action Mulan.
The Avatar follow-ups are now scheduled for 2022, 2024, 2026, and 2028 holiday releases; while Mulan has been postponed indefinitely. Other Disney films that have been delayed include The French Dispatch (indefinite), The Last Duel (October 2021), The Personal History of David Copperfield (August 2020), Death on The Nile (October 2020), and Antlers (February 2021).
