‘Game of Thrones’ Star Peter Dinklage to Play the ‘Hunger Games’ Creator in Prequel Film

He plays Casca, the man who came up with the idea of the Hunger Games.

Emmy-winning actor Peter Dinklage, who is best known for his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones is joining yet another much-anticipated book-to-film adaptation: the prequel film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Dinklage will be joining the film’s ensemble as the Dean of the Academy, Casca Highbottom, Deadline reports. In the book, Highbottom is a friend of Coriolanus Snow’s father, Crassus, and in a drunken stupor, he was the one who came up with the idea of what would become the Hunger Games.

Based on the book of the same name by Suzanne Collins, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows the younger years of Panem’s tyrannical President Coriolanus Snow. At 18 years old, Coriolanus was assigned to mentor the District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird. When Lucy Gray shows her defiant nature, Snow finds an opportunity to unite their showmanship and political savvy to turn the odds in their favor as the 10th Hunger Games commences.

Francis Lawrence, who directed three films of the original movie saga, returns to direct The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Also starring in the film are Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird. It is set for release in US theaters on November 17, 2023.
