Serving gourmet burgers with the combination of fine dining techniques and out-of-the-box ingredients is GILT Burger in Guijo, Makati.
Opened just a month ago, this new restaurant in the city is born out of the minds of Gian Reyes and Alexa Arce, a couple who loves travelling, food, and puns. So there's no surprise when they came up with a restaurant that serves burgers inspired by their travels and named it with some of the punniest names they could think of.
GILT is easy to spot once you're in Guijo. It's conveniently located right across the Saguijo, so whether you're headed to a gig, waiting for someone who's at a gig, or you're just craving for a burger really badly, this is your place to be! Upon going in, you'll be greeted by a bright mural by Jappy Agoncillo on one side, and blue wooden walls on the other.
From burgers and chicken wings, to sides and desserts, here are some of the dishes you have to try when in GILT:
For the ones who love a bit of heat and spice when it comes to their burgers, try The Convict, which is inspired by the Sydney beach culture. One bite and you'd instantly have a taste of its sweet and the spicy flavors, thanks to the pineapple slice and the chicken thigh fillet coated with some periperi sauce.
Mi Goreng, on the other hand, has a chicken thigh fillet patty covered in Mi Goreng (Indonesian fried noodles), drizzled with some sriracha sauce, and topped with a sunny side egg. The result? A crunchy burger that's rich with Asian flavors.
Gian's favorite among all the burgers they serve is GILT's Drunken Umami, and it will not disappoint anyone who wants a burger that's both sweet and savory. It's made of New Zealand Angus Beef patty, katsuobushi, beer cheese sauce, lettuce, and rum and bacon jam.
Don't forget to have their Honey Sriracha Wings – a blend of the sweet and the tangy – to pair with your burgers. If you're more of a bacon than a wing person, try the Crowd Pleaser which is exactly that – a crowd pleaser. It's honey-cured bacon wrapped chicken filled with bell peppers and melted American and cheddar cheese.
To cap off your meal, have GILT's More Than Smores, a mouthwatering dessert made of melted milk chocolate blocks, hazelnut, Oreos, white chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, toasted marshmallows, topped with a scoop of cookies and cream ice cream, and served in a hot skillet. Needless to say, it's like the smores you know and love, only so much better!
