Last Valentine’s Day, world-class Japanese chocolatier Royce’ Chocolates introduced Filipinos to a new way of celebrating love: they encouraged the ladies to make the first move. They even paired these words of encouragement with the dedicated hashtag #LoveIsARoyce, which celebrates women taking back the holiday by deciding who gets the chocolate for a change. Now, Royce’ Chocolates is preparing for another love-themed holiday: White Day, a Japanese tradition honored on March 14.
How Japan Does Valentine’s Day and White Day
In Japan, the 14th of February is celebrated with more enthusiasm than anywhere else. To help women find the perfect presents for the object of their affection, department stores and shopping districts go all out with their gorgeous displays of chocolates and endless arrays of gift options.
The perfect present, of course, is typically chocolate.
On Valentine’s Day, women all over Japan treat their sweethearts to the best chocolates that money can buy. On March 14, exactly one month later, Japan celebrates White Day—an opportunity for men to give back, and give more. Traditionally, Japanese men are expected to match their special ladies’ gifts threefold. The gift of choice is usually white chocolate, a nod to the holiday’s name.
It’s this widely celebrated Japanese tradition that Royce’ Chocolates hope to introduce to Philippine audiences this year. After all, if White Day works so well for the women of Japan, who says it can’t work for Filipinas too?
Don’t forget that #LoveIsARoyce
To further celebrate all of the women who decided to take back Valentine’s Day by bravely making the first move, Royce’ continues to encourage everyone to post photos of their unique takes on both Valentine’s and White Day. All posts with the hashtag #LoveIsARoyce will be considered part of the promo—and posters stand a chance to win a generous gift from Royce’ Chocolates!
