About the Event
The highly acclaimed cellist and pedagogue Matias de Olivera Pinto will perform with pianist Mariel Ilusorio in a one-night concert on Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Ayala Museum, Makati City. The evening's program includes works by Jeffrey Ching, Brahms and Villalobos. Prof. de Olivera will also conduct masterclass on August 6 at 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Sunshine Place, 56 Jupiter St., Brgy Bel Air, Makati City.
De Oliveira Pinto was born in São Paulo, Brazil, into an artistic family. He began piano classes and learned to play the cello early on. At age 18, he became the student of Zygmunt Kubala, a music professor at the University of Music in Curitiba, Brazil. He took part in the masterclass of Aldo Parisot. Soon his success in a music competition awarded him a scholarship at the Herbert von Karajan Foundation. He polished his talent further under the supervision Eberhard Finke, principal cellist of the Berliner Philharmoniker. With the guidance of Prof. Csaba Onczay, he had a two-year training at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. His training also included masterclasses with Antonio Meneses, Gerhard Mantel, William Pleeth and Paul Tortelier.
Beside his solo, chamber and festival performances in South America, Europe, the US, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, de Oliveira Pinto is also a dedicated professor at the Hanns Eisler Music University in Berlin. He has held several cello and chamber music masterclasses in Germany, France, Brazil, the US and Japan.
He will be assisted at the piano by one of country's premiere pianist Mariel Ilusorio who studied at the Juilliard School in New York and Oberlin Conservatory of Music. She took further studies with eminent piano pedogague Arie Vardi at the State Academy of Music in Hannover. She had won several international prizes, including the special prize at the 14th Rina Salo Gallo International Competition in Italy, Maria Canals Piano Competition in Barcelona, the East Friesland Piano Prize in 1999 in Germany and the grand prize in the Carlo Soliva International Piano Competition 2000 which enabled her to perform critically acclaimed piano recitals in various European cities.
