Netflix Halloween tips and Tricks

Netflix Shares 6 Tips and Tricks (or Treats!) for a Spooktacular Halloween at Home

Octoberā€™s here and usually, that would mean dressing up as your favorite character, preparing the candies, and trick-or-treating with the kids to get some delicious sweets! However, amid the pandemic, events and public gatherings are restricted, while we stay at home for our safety.

But that doesnā€™t mean we canā€™t have a Spooktacular Halloween with our families! There are so many things you can do to have the best ā€œHalloween-at-homeā€. Check out these cool ideas:

1. Prepare a Halloween Virtual Party

Virtual parties and gatherings have become a great way to have fun even when everyone is staying at home. The kids can virtually meet via video conferencing (with awesome backgrounds like this one from ā€˜Over The Moonā€™), with their rooms decorated, spooky meals prepared, and lots of fun games to play.

Dress them up and prepare a party flow with unique games, like Charades, virtual card games, and the like!

2. Create Your Own Costumes

You donā€™t need to go out to dress up. Turn Halloween into an occasion to dress up and make your own costumes with the kidsā€™ help! There are so many options to choose from:, Steveā€™s Scoops Ahoy uniform from ā€˜Stranger Thingsā€™, or your favorite characters from the ā€˜Chilling Adventures of Sabrinaā€™, ā€˜Umbrella Academyā€™, or ā€˜The Witcherā€™!

All you need is creativity, clothes you already have at home, and a few accessories to make your favorite characters come to life. Your kids will definitely have fun making their own costumes to show off during virtual Halloween parties with friends!

3. Whip Up Yummy Halloween Treats

Itā€™s not a fun Halloween without yummy treats! You donā€™t need to stick to plain store-bought candy. Consider cooking up meals and sweets to really complete the night and overall atmosphere.

Make your own creepy cookies and cupcakes, black magic cakes, or even your own ice cream sundae bar, just like the one from ā€˜The Willoughbysā€™! Your kids will have fun trick-or-treating at home as they lick their fingers making these.

4. Make Your Own Spooky Decor

Even when everyoneā€™s at home, you can still keep the Halloween spirit alive by decorating your home, giving it the spooky ambiance for family night. There are many DIY Halloween decorations you can make, from carving your own pumpkins to spooky tattered costumes. Be creative with the items you have at home, be inspired by the ambiance from shows like ā€˜Chilling Adventures of Sabrinaā€™, ā€˜The Haunting of Bly Manorā€™, or ā€˜Eerieā€™, and spook up your home with the entire family.

5. Bond with the Family over Halloween Movies

It isnā€™t Halloween without awesome movies! After cooking and prepping movie snacks, sit back and relax as you spend the entire night watching the best Halloween films with the kids. Netflix has some awesome kid-friendly content you can stream, like ā€˜Super Monstersā€™, ā€˜True: Tricky Treat Dayā€™, ā€˜A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Huntingā€™, ā€˜Hubie Halloweenā€™, and more!

Be wary, though! Some films can be TOO scary for the kids, so make sure that you prepare ahead and set Netflixā€™s parental control features accordingly. This is helpful in making sure your children only watch fun films that are appropriate for their age. Hereā€™s how to keep the super scary films away from your kids:

  1. Click Add Profile and mark it ā€œChildā€. Then go to ā€œviewing restrictionsā€ from Profile and Parental Controls in your account, and set it as per your child(ren)ā€™s age to G, PG, PG13 or higher. Setting it to G will only allow titles appropriate for all ages.Ā
  2. Put a 4-digit PIN on the adult profile(s) — this time, by going to Profile Lock under Profile and Parental Controls — to keep the kids away from titles that may be inappropriate for their age.Ā

6. Let Netflix Find You Halloween Movies and Shows

Whatā€™s better than finding the perfect movie for Halloween? Having someone else do the work for you. Collections on Netflix make sure you have something to watch for every mood and occasion. So, gather everyone, and just search for ā€œHalloween favoritesā€ to find the spookiest shows and movies: From Adam Sandlerā€™s new release, Hubie Halloween, to Ratched starring Sarah Paulson, 3 seasons of Sabrina, or 2 seasons of Creeped Out.Ā

So, what are you waiting for? Start prepping for your special Netflix Halloween-at-home and excite your kids this October with all the fun and excitement in store for them!
