Dolemite is My Name centers on the comedian Rudy Ray Moore, who becomes a word-of-mouth sensation when he has an epiphany to borrow the persona of 1970s street mythology Dolemite, a "pimp with a cane and an arsenal of obscene fables". With his records considered as "too racy" for mainstream radios, he gets a dramatist to make a film about his alter-ego, one that features kung fu, car chases, and an ex-backup singer who becomes his foil.
This upcoming film is a celebration of Moore's talent and influence among comics and rappers. It is to be helmed by director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Empire), and written by award-winning writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski.
Eddie Murphy will be starring as the titular character, who will be joined by a star-studded cast which includes Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess, Kody Smit-McPhee, Snoop Dogg, Ron Cephas Jones, and more.
