Most people know Erwan Heussaff as a food and fitness guy of The Fat Kid Inside, or for his slew of restaurants and bars with the Mothership group, and most recently, for his food and travel videos online where he takes us to different sights, sounds, and noms. The celebrity multi-media personality is also a total music geek who loves updating his Spotify to create monthly playlists and curate the tunes for his restaurants. "I'm going to Fuji Rock [Festival] this year," he shares with us during lunch at Pink Panda, his Asian restaurant in Makati.
Curious to know what's Erwan Heussaff's current sound candy? We sit down with Erwan to talk about his favorite songs of the moment.
"It’s currently my unpacking song. I’m currently moving out so I’ve been listening to James Bay while I’m packing."
"There are actually 3 bands I’ve been listening to for Fuji Rock. Sigur Rós, The Album Leaf and Explosions in the Sky. So, all kinds of instrumental kind of things. So that’s the top 3 bands I’ve been listening just because I’ll be going to the festival."
"There's this band called Nao which I play a lot at the bar because it's kind of very bluesy but has a trip pop vibe and the kind of music I really like to listen to. I don't know how to describe it but maybe as sexy music. It kind of has this downbeat, heavy bass – a lot of hip hop and RnB influence but it isn't hip hop and RnB. It's more of a down-tempo kind of thing and that's what I've been really into. So if you ask me what kind of rap I like, I'd say Tinie Tempah."
"Another song that I really love right now is Tom Odell's Another Love. It's a kind of song when you're going home or when you're at the airport… Stuff like that!"
"When I travel, and I do travel quite a bit now… I listen to The National – any album or any song… It’s a band from Brooklyn; they call themselves the Brooklyn Sad Dads cos they’re kind of really depressed and introspective and he has a super deep voice which is really cool. And their music is very travel-ish."
"When I write, for example, when I make my VOs and scripts, I listen to a lot of downtempo blues or soul. So the tunes of Kamasi Washington would be the type of music I'd listen to usually."
"My newest discovery is this song I found on Spotify called No Trouble by Hippie Sabotage."
