Wish We Were Here: Cruising on Bohol’s iconic emerald river, enjoying lunch with a lush view

This long and winding stretch of tranquil, emerald-green waters, lush with a serene view of tropical greens, is best enjoyed with a hearty lunch buffet and an intermission of live rondalla music.

A long stretch of tranquil, emerald-green waters wind lazily in Bohol. Lush with a serene view of tropical greens, this famous river is best enjoyed with a hearty lunch buffet and an intermission of live rondalla music.

Loboc River is one of the major tourist destinations of the province, located in the town of Loboc. Known for its mystical charm and striking hues of green, the river draws in many tourists through its floating restaurants, which allows guests to cruise the river during daytime, satiating their appetite for both food and nature tripping.

Choose among many of the floating restaurants docked at the Loay Bridge, and allow them to cruise you around the bends and turns of Bohol's iconic river, lush with vegetation and scenic views perfect for a panoramic shot. Highlights of experiencing Loboc River though this cruise is a filling buffet, live musical performances, and a pitsop at Busay Falls to enjoy the view and a folk song and dance. Loboc is also known as the Music Capital of Bohol, and you may be lucky on your visit if the world-renowned Loboc Children's Choir is there to serenade you on your cruise.

Where: Loboc River, Carmen, Bohol (cruise begins at Loay Bridge, Loboc)

Getting There: From Tagbilaran Airport, Loboc is a 40 minute drive; you may rent a van or taxi, or for a cheaper mode of transportation, buses, jeeps, motorbikes and tricycles are available. Loay Bridge is located near the Loboc Church.

Tip: For the discerning foodie, take your time in choosing among the many floating restaurants offering cruises–they are all docked by Loay Bridge. Look through their buffet spread, and you have the option to pay extra for a more premium buffet selection, which costs around P550/head with a maximum of 30 guests (via Village Floating Resto & Cruises).  If you rather skip the lunch buffet and have a more up-close encounter with nature, you can rent a smaller private boat which can take you to Busay Falls, located at the end of the river, where you can swim.
