Today, YouTube introduced YouTube Red which is a subscription service that will give users access to ad-free videos, ability to save offline and background play. The company also announced YouTube Originals which has a number of original programs that will be available only on the paid service.
The new subscription service costs $9.99 per month which allows users to save videos to watch when offline and play videos in the background when switching apps. Users now will be able to use YouTube as a music player which has been a request by its users for a long time now. Moreover, YouTube Red also includes access to Google's existing music service — Google Play.
However, the company clarified that "the free, ad-supported version of YouTube we all know and love isn’t going anywhere." This means that its users will still be able to enjoy the service that we have been using for free.
"With YouTube Red, you’ll be able to support the people who make your favorite videos while watching what you want, when you want, on any device you want, uninterrupted," the company added on a post.
