Highlights from the Microsoft’s Surface Pro event

Microsoft unveils the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, a new Surface tablet and a Surface Book laptop.

Microsoft revealed a number of new Windows 10 devices on Tuesday, October 6, in New York. The company started the event by announcing that 110 million users have already upgraded to Windows 10, ten weeks after the software update.

Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL

Microsoft showcased two smartphones, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL which can run on Windows 10 and they say that it can work like an actual computer.

The Lumia 950 has a 5.2-inch WQHD (1440×2560) OLED display, has a 3GB RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor. Moreover, it has a 20-megapixel camera with triple LED flash. Both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL have 32GB of storage which is microSD card-expandable.

The Lumia 950 ($549) and Lumia 950 XL ($649) will be available in November.

Surface Pro 4

The new version of Microsoft's tablet, the Surface Pro 4 is thinner, lighter and more powerful than its predecessor, the Surface Pro 3. The new device has a G6 chipset made by Microsoft, a 12.3-inch display and a stylus which is called the Surface Pen. The Surface Pen which comes with its own eraser on the end features 1,024 levels of pressure, an all-year battery life and attaches magnetically to the side of the tablet when not in use.

The Surface Pro 4 will be available for preorder on October 7 and will be available on October 27 starting at $899.

Surface Book

The Surface Book is a 13.5-inch, 267ppi laptop but is different than most laptops in the market since the screen can be removed so it can be used as a tablet or flipped over to cover the keyboard. The company says that the device is two times faster than the MacBook Pro — equipped with the latest Intel Core processors, an Nvidia GeForce GPU with GDDR5 memory.

The Surface Book will be available for preorder on October 7 and will be available on October 26 for $1,499.
