Microsoft’s ‘Cortana’ is now available on Android

Today, they have released a beta version of the Cortana app which is available to all Android phone users.

In May, Windows announced Cortana, the first personal digital assistant who works for PC and Windows phone, will also be available to Android and iOS devices.

Today, they have released a beta version of the Cortana app which is available to all Android phone users.

The new app isn't different from the PC version — you can set reminders, search the web, track flights and do the usual voice-powered searches Cortana has been able to do.

However, you will see differences between what Cortana can do in Windows and in the app on Android since it doesn't have full access to Android devices like it does in Windows.

"For example toggling settings, opening apps or invoking Cortana hands-free by saying 'Hey Cortana' are only available on Windows for now. As with all betas, we are continually improving the experience and will incorporate feedback along the way," as explained by Susan Hendrich, ‎Principal Program Manager Lead of Windows, on a post.

The Android version of Cortana is still a beta version, so there are probably a few bugs and other issues the company needs to smooth out before the app's official release.

Cortana is currently only rolling out for Android in the US, but Microsoft mentioned that it plans to put the service on other markets. That being the case, it is expected that the digital assistant will soon be available for iOS users as well. If you want to try the beta version, click here.
