Unicode is releasing 38 new Emojis in 2016!

The Unicode Consortium, the nonprofit organization which governs the Unicode Standard is said to be releasing 38 new emojis in 2016 -- including a bacon emoji!

The Unicode Consortium, the nonprofit organization which governs the Unicode Standard is said to be releasing 38 new emojis in 2016. Emojis are no strangers to those who have smartphones — they help you when you don't know what to say in a conversation. Pop in a few smiling poop emojis and you're good to go.

The 38 brand new emojis to be included in version 9.0 will eventually be in iOS, Android and other messaging platforms. News of the possible Unicode 9.0 emojis comes just a month after the Unicode 8.0 — you know, the emojis with different skin tones.

Companies like Apple and Microsoft have already been incorporating some of the Unicode 8.0 into their operating systems (OS) while the consortium will still finalize the update next month. Most major tech companies are supposedly to add the new set of emojis to their OS after that.

Here is a full list of the proposed characters that the consortium plans to approve in 2016:

  • Face with cowboy hat
  • Clown face
  • Nauseated face
  • Rolling on the floor face
  • Drooling face
  • Lying face
  • Call me hand
  • Selfie
  • Raised back of hand
  • Left-facing fist
  • Right-facing fist
  • Handshake
  • Hands with first and index finger crossed
  • Pregnant woman
  • Face palm
  • Shrug
  • Man dancing
  • Prince
  • Man in tuxedo
  • Mother Christmas
  • Scooter
  • Motor scooter
  • Wilted flower
  • Clinking glasses
  • Octagonal sign
  • Black heart
  • Avocado
  • Cucumber
  • Bacon
  • Potato
  • Carrot
  • Animals
  • Fox face
  • Eagle
  • Duck
  • Bat
  • Shark
  • Owl

And since these emojis are yet to be approved by the consortium, it still gives us hope that in the future, there will be room for more entertaining emojis.
