Meet ORCA: An apparatus designed to keep the sharks away

ORCA is an affordable shark deterrent for people who want to explore the ocean but are terrified of sharks.

Do you always have a nagging fear of a shark attack whenever you're in the ocean?

Fret no more because ORCA is here to keep your fears away.

ORCA, short for Ocean Recreation Comfort Apparatus is a new Kickstarter project that's designed 'to keep the sharks away so you can play.' It's an affordable and non-disruptive shark deterrent that's just about the size and weight of a watch. The ORCA works by emitting sounds waves that mimic killer whales. This distinct killer whale sound has been tested to scare away sharks. By using this method, the ORCA not only manages to protect you from sharks, but also protect the sharks and the rest of the ocean since these sound waves aren't harmful at all. The ORCA's sonic buffer is about 100ft/30m wide, which is currently the widest in the industry. Now you can surf, dive, and snorkel without worrying about being coming face to face with a shark.

The ORCA can last up to 12 hours and can be recharged using a USB cable. It can be worn on the wrist, ankle, or strapped to a surf leash. Retail price is $179 and will be available starting March 2015, but if you back up their Kickstarter project now, you can get the ORCA for only $71.
