The 13th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day in Baler, Aurora

The 13th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day, with the theme "Transitions, Trade and Transpacific Changes," celebrates the strong bilateral relations between the two countries as a result of the Philippines and Spain's deep historical and cultural ties.

The 13th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day, with the theme "Transitions, Trade and Transpacific Changes," celebrates the strong bilateral relations between the two countries as a result of the Philippines and Spain's deep historical and cultural ties.

"The bilateral trade between Philippines and Spain has been on the upswing over the years, and we are optimistic that this will continue to expand. Our deep-rooted ties with Spain gives us an enormous advantage over other countries in terms of potential trade and investment opportunities," Senator Sonny Angara said.

Spain ranks as the Philippines’ 28th largest trading partner with total bilateral trade amounting to $329.6 million in 2011.

The Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day Act (Republic Act 9187) was authored by the younger Angara and his father, former senator Edgardo Angara, to mark the act of benevolence which has paved the way in bridging better relations between Philippines and Spain.

The 13th Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day also coincides with the 116th anniversary of the historic Siege of Baler, where Filipino and Spanish soldiers demonstrated their valor, nobility and shared humanity, even during conflict.
